RSS Feed Reader

ComradesSince I follow several blogs, as many of you probably do also, checking each website individually can take quite a bit of time. Almost all blogs have a method for notifying readers of new posts called RSS. RSS feed readers will regularly check all the blogs you follow for updates, so you only have the website of your RSS feed reader to visit in order to view the updates from multiple websites. I use Thunderbird as my email and my RSS client, but there are many other options available. Feedly is one of the more popular, but requires a previous Google or Facebook account. There are other options available too. Click here for a review of some of the best.

Either way, if you enjoy multiple blogs, I would highly recommend you start using an RSS feed reader so you can stay updated on your favourite websites, but not spend the time of checking them individually.

2014 Piano Recital

On Tuesday, we had two piano recitals for a couple of Mom’s music students, including Andrew, Christi, and I. Both recitals were on the same evening; we started out at a local assisted living, and then had our final recital at our church. Although our playing was not perfect, we would like to give a big thank you to all those who came and encouraged us.

For they cried to God

“And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” – 1 Chronicles 5:20

Point Iroquois LighthouseWhen hardship knocks, who is the first person you go to for help? In this verse, the Israelites went to God. God will save those who trust Him. “As for God… he is a buckler to all those that trust in him (Psalms 18:30).”

Instead of doing this, we frequently run to the strongest of our physical helpers. Often we trust our friends, the government, or another person who is in power to save us. The Israelites did this many times. They trusted in Egypt to save them, but Pharaoh was unable to do so. “The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him (Jeremiah 46:25).”

Those of physical power cannot be trusted to save us. “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength (Psalms 33:16).”   Where will you put your trust?

Winter Coziness

People are constantly changing in their expressions and appearances. Landscapes are slowly changing. Cats are somewhere in between. While cats change more often than seasonally, they are normally ready to enjoy the little things in life – such as a good nap. There is a lesson of contentment to be learned from cats.

In this case, Nutmeg (our cat) was quite happy to watch me take pictures of her. For this picture, I set up a flash on the side of the bed and aimed it at the joint between the wall and the ceiling. This lit up the background. To light up the cat, I had one flash to the camera right, and another flash that was reflected with a golden reflector from the camera left. This helped enrich the colors of Nutmeg’s fur.

Winter Coziness

We had snow…

12.5 inches of snow Yesterday morning we had an additional 4.5 inches of snow. In the middle of our front yard, we had a total of 12.5 inches of snow, and in the drifts it was much deeper. We’ve been getting a lot of exercise shovelling. Unfortunately, we only have about 2 inches of heavy slush left now – and it’s disappearing quickly! The weather is warming up rapidly, at least for this week. We’ll likely be back in winter next week.

Parent’s Night Out

On Thursday, we had another parent’s night out, where the students at our church take care of the younger kids so the parent’s can spend some time alone together. The theme for this time was “God helps the humble,” and the theme verse was James 4:6, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
